Sisters school board to meet Wednesdays

Starting next fall, the Sisters School Board will meet on Wednesdays rather than on Tuesdays, with meetings twice a month.

The decision was made at the school board meeting on June 3.

Glen Lasken made the motion. He said he hoped for better attendance from the public, and fewer conflicts with other events.

"Tuesday and Thursday are big sports nights, especially in the fall," Lasken said.

Volleyball and other sports often have midweek games on Tuesday or Thursday.

Board member Christine Jones was neutral on the change and was willing "to see if it facilitates fewer family conflicts."

Tom Dumolt's only concern was that the public is now conditioned to having the meeting on Tuesdays.

Jeff Smith, who also volunteers as a coach for wrestling, said if the meetings were changed to Thursday, which was not the motion, "I would resign from the board and coach for free."

Dumolt said he would prefer a consistent schedule, with meetings on the second and fourth Wednesday, rather than second and fourth Wednesday one month, and first and third the next.

Jones wondered if the regular meeting should be on Wednesday with work sessions on Tuesday, but Lasken worried that would confuse the public and did not change his motion. The vote was 3-2, with Lasken, Dumolt and Jones in favor, Smith and Gould opposed.
