The Sisters Cubs claimed their second consecutive Sister Little League majors (10-12 years old) championship, winning 12 of 13 games and coming within one run of an undefeated season.
The Cubs finished 7-1 in Sisters and also defeated teams from Bend South, Prineville and Redmond. Over the last two years, the Cubs compiled a 27-3 record.
The Cubs final game was a fitting reflection of the season.
The Sisters White Sox, the only team to beat the Cubs this year, jumped to an early 5-0 lead. But the Cubs came back with two in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth to tie the game. The White Sox then scored in the sixth to go ahead and were within one out of winning the game when Zach Enneberg, a 10-year-old, doubled to tie the score and send the game to extra innings.
The White Sox promptly scored two with two out in the seventh, but the Cubs scored three to win it 9-8 on hits by Blake Knirk, Billy Biggers, Nicky Blumm, and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Lahey.
The come-from-behind win was only one of several for the Cubs this year, including a last-inning three-run rally that beat Sisterrs rival the Yankees, 3-2, earlier in the season, one of four straight Cubs wins over the Yankees.
The Cubs leading hitters were Joey Morgan, NickyBlumm, Jardon Weems, Ryan Lahey, Tyler Berg, and Derek Enneberg. Biggers. Morgan, Derek Enneberg, Blumm, and Berg also did the catching, while Morgan, Blumm, Weems, Lahey and Knirk provided the pitching.
Team members also included Zach Enneberg, Kord Strickland and Jeremiah Hasskamp, who played the last several weeks with an injured wrist. The team was coached by Michael Blumm and Stan Morgan.
Many of the Cubs players will be participating in 11-12 and 10-11 Sisters all-star teams over the next few weeks. This year the all-star tournaments will be held in Redmond, beginning June 28.
