News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
To the Editor:
It is well past time to reduce the posted speed on Highway 20 at the west entrance to Sisters. The 20 mph sign needs to move to the west of the Ray's entrance. The 35 out to the McDonald's.
Please slow down the traffic entering Sisters before we lose a school bus full of kids.

Re: "Remembering sacrifice through scholarships" (The Nugget, June 11, page 1).
In addition to being a man of integrity, Lynn Johnston is a strong family man, unabashed patriot, humble and hardworking. He is what I would call a "classic American," something we could all aspire to.
I am glad that he is my neighbor and friend.

To the Editor:
We have crossed the Highway 20 intersection from Barclay Drive for the last eight years driving our kids to and from school.
We have witnessed many near misses and our biggest concern is for the many teenage drivers who cross this intersection also. These teens have a maximum of 2-3 years driving experience by the time they graduate which puts them at a huge disadvantage in judging the speed and distance of moving vehicles at this intersection.
Add to that the 12 traffic flow patterns occurring there, many at the same time (going straight, right or left from each of the four road directions) and vehicles traveling up to 55 mph on Highway 20. It's a challenge for adults to get across this intersection during heavy traffic.
Please write Mayor Brad Boyd at [email protected] and to ODOT planner Jim Bryant at [email protected] or get involved in another way to accelerate the implementation of a solution to this dangerous intersection.
