Taking care of Sisters' skin

For Aleta Sarno, taking care of people's skin is a kind of calling.

Sarno offers a full range of services working from Three Sisters Salon & Spa - manicures, pedicures, waxing, facials - and she does the work with charm, style and enthusiasm.

However, she says, "the big basis for the passion is skin care."

Sarno's interest in skin care started early and close to home. Her sister has long battled with rosacea, a condition that causes severe reddening of the facial skin. The condition is not curable, but it can be controlled.

Together, Sarno and her sister experimented with different skin products in an effort to find the key to controlling the condition.

It was an effort that put Sarno on a career path.

She went to Phagans' Cosmetology School in Bend. She decided she didn't want to work in her native Redmond and she figured if she was going to commute, she'd like to work in Sisters.

She started working at Three Sisters Salon earlier this year and is building up a loyal clientele.

"It's just such a nice little town here," she said. "The energy here is so nice."

She noted that Central Oregon's dry climate poses challenges to people who want to keep their skin healthy and youthful. Sarno said the keys to a successful skin care program are hydration, exfoliation, moisturizers and sunscreen.

Sarno is relentless in her efforts to find the right combinations of products and procedures to work for each of her individual clients. She is always learning and adapting.

"I'm not opposed to learning about new things and trying new things," she said.
