Outlaws will play in Magic Kingdom

The Sisters High School varsity softball team has been accepted for Spring Training 2009 at Wide World of Disney Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.

The spring break trip will include two-a-day practices, daily hitting tunnel workouts and scrimmages against high school teams of similar enrollment from Wisconsin and New York City. The week-long schedule will include 43 other high school teams from throughout the U.S. participating.

The Lady Outlaws will travel to Orlando, March 28, with a return date of April 4.

"It makes for a busy spring break for us," said Outlaws coach Tom Mauldin. "We'll host our own tournament, March 25-26, take the 27th off and travel to Disney on the 28th. From a softball team bonding point of view, as well as practice time, we're looking forward to the adventure."

The coach said a dozen varsity players would make the trip.

"It's a big undertaking, especially with the recent increases in airfare, but it'll create a lifetime of memories for the girls," said Mauldin.

The 2009 Spring Training trip will be completely fundraised by the Outlaw Softball program. Anyone wishing to sponsor an Outlaws player or assist with fund-raising may contact coach Mauldin at 549-6170.

The Outlaws players will begin their fund-raising this summer, including a marathon game to be played August 9 at Sisters High School's varsity field. The Lady Outlaws are seeking donations or pledges per innings played. Coach Mauldin noted members of the community are invited to play.
