City asks citizens to weigh in on mailboxes

The Sisters Post Office will be relocating to the corner of Barclay Drive and Larch Street in the near future.

In an effort to provide convenient service, the Post Office has agreed to provide "cluster mailboxes" on the south side of Sisters. The City of Sisters Planning Department is requesting citizen comments on sites under consideration for new cluster mailboxes.

The cluster mailbox units will be installed prior to the new Sisters Post Office's opening.

City staff and the Sisters Postmaster have identified 18 potential sites that are being considered for these cluster mailboxes. Overall, a total of between 10 and 12 locations will be needed to accommodate all of the mailboxes required to serve affected residents on the south side of Sisters.

These potential sites were chosen using the following selection criteria;

• Low visibility of boxes to neighboring properties.

• Positioning of neighboring driveways and access ways.

• Line of sight for vehicle safety pulling in/out of box locations.

• Number of locations (more boxes means less concentrated traffic at each location).

• City ownership of property under consideration (the city owns right-of-way that extends beyond the pavement in most cases).

• Adequate pull-over room to access the boxes.

• Should be located at entrances to neighborhoods.

To view proposed locations, visit City Hall. Maps will be mailed to those in the immediate area of a proposed cluster.

Comments are due by 5 p.m., Friday, August 8, to be considered in the final selection of cluster mail box locations. Questions or concerns regarding the application should be directed to the Planning Department in care of Eric Porter, Community Development Director, 323-5219, or Pauline Hardie, Senior Planner, at 323-5208. E-mail comments to [email protected], or mail them to City Hall at 520 E. Cascade Ave., Sisters, OR 97759.
