Thieves steal disc golf basket on Sisters course

Hole No. 17 on Sisters' disc golf course is missing.

The steel basket that catches disc golf putts at the course near Sisters High School was reported stolen on Monday, July 21. Course creator Kathy Kemper-Green suspects it was stolen sometime Sunday night.

It was unlikely to have been a random or impulsive act, Green noted. The thieves would have required bolt cutters to break the stout padlock on the base of the base of the basket stand and would have probably required a pickup truck to haul off the unwieldy basket.

Kemper-Green said the basket is valued at $450; with shipping and installation the loss is about $500.

The basket is a heavy-duty commercial device and would be readily recognizable.

"These look different than any others in Central Oregon," Kemper-Green said. "Nobody would have one of these in their back yard. They would have the $200 version, not the $450 version."

Kemper-Green is offering a $200 reward for recovery of the basket. She said she will not replace the basket immediately.

"I'm going to wait about a week," she said. "I'm going to work hard (on recovery) for a couple of days at least before I sink any money into it."

Anyone with information on the theft is requested to contact Kemper-Green at 749-0610 or the Sisters sheriff's office substation at 549-2302.
