'Art at the Ranch' returns to Black Butte Ranch

The annual "Art at the Ranch" art show and sale is set for Friday, August 29 and Saturday, August 30 at Black Butte Ranch.

The popular event includes artwork created by Black Butte Ranch owners, employees, friends and gifted artists from Sisters High School. The art is exhibited in a tent located between the Lodge and the Recreation Barn at Black Butte Ranch.

Many artists will display a broad spectrum of art including paintings, sketches, sculpture, photography, pottery, jewelry, and handcrafted items of wood, fabric, and paper. Among the new artists this year, the Guild is pleased to include local watercolor naturalist, Don Zylius.

The show is sponsored by the Art Guild of Black Butte Ranch. The Friday event, from 4 to 7 p.m., includes an Artists' Reception and silent auction with hors d'oeuvres. Wine and soft drinks are available for purchase.

Saturday's event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge for either day, and the event is open to the public.

The Art Guild is also offering a handmade quilt to be raffled on Saturday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $5 each and are now available at the lodge, where the quilt is displayed.

The quilt is a project of Peggy's Pin Pals, titled "Santa's Got the Goods." Peggy Taylor is the group's leader and inspiration.

The group decides together on a quilt theme each year. It's not always a Christmas theme, though quilts that are prove popular.

"We did a Christmas quilt a couple of years ago and we sold every ticket," said quilter Judi Benson.

The raffle and other guild activities raise funds for art scholarships.

This year four scholarships totaling $3,000 were awarded by the Art Guild to four seniors at Sisters High School, and $1,000 was given each to Sisters Elementary and Sisters Middle School art programs. Proceeds from "Art at the Ranch" will continue to support these endeavors and also may be used toward future art purchases for the Ranch.

Free parking is available.
