News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Chuck Perry has just been installed as pastor of Sisters Church of the Nazarene.
Chuck and his wife, Valerie, are busy unpacking their belongings and getting settled in Sisters.
They have three children. One will attend middle school, while their two older ones are off to college. Lindsay, 20, attends college in San Diego at Point Loma Nazarene University; Zach, 18, is enrolled at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa; and Breanna, 12, will enter the seventh grade in Sisters.
Perry returns to the Northwest after four years in San Diego at Linda Vista Church of the Nazarene. He served 17 years at the First Church of the Nazarene in Salem, including 12 years as youth pastor.
He and Valerie are delighted to be in Sisters and back in the Northwest.
"We love the people and the beauty," he said.
Both enjoy whitewater rafting and outdoor activities. Perry loves fly-fishing. He hopes to involve outdoor activities in his ministry with fishing workshops and rafting.
He also hopes to reach out to young families with discussion about a nursery and children's activities at the church and an active youth program.
"I'm a practical pastor. I believe in using the scriptures to help with everyday life," he said. "We will be open to anybody."
Valerie will teach kindergarten at Sisters Elementary School. She enjoys scrapbooking and walking.
Chuck is a graduate of Northwest Nazarene University. He replaces Levi Johnson, who moved to Colorado.
The church is located five miles east of Sisters on Highway 20 at 67130 Harrington Loop.
