The boys soccer team made a great debut at the jamboree held at Philomath on Friday, August 29. The Outlaws won their first two games and finished the day with a tie.
Sisters started off with a big 7-0 win over Cascade. The Outlaws had 10 shots on goal in the contest and Cascade finished with five. Kevin Marquardt led the Outlaw scoring with a hat trick (three goals) and Max Quinn, Lee Elder, Will Newport and Colby Gilmore each contributed one.
David Liming, Patrick Young, Dirk Vandervelde and Joey Farruggia each recorded an assist and Farruggia also had six saves in goal.
The Outlaws controlled all aspects of the game and the win was a total team effort.
Sisters faced league opponent Junction City in the second game and came out on top with a 1-0 victory. The Outlaws had four shots on goal and the Tigers had three.
Elder hit a strong shot that went between the keeper and the corner post for Sisters' lone goal in the game. Will Newport recorded the assist. Farruggia had two saves in the game.
Coach Rob Jensen said, "Everyone played hard and David (Liming) and Will (Newport) controlled the center of the field."
Sisters matched up against Philomath in their final game of the day, which ended in a 1-1 tie. Vandervelde made the goal for Sisters with an assist from Elder. Farruggia had five saves in the game.
"Lee (Elder) made a good cross in front of the net that Dirk volleyed for the goal," said Jensen.
Jensen told The Nugget that Elder and Vandervelde played very well at outside midfield, and Sam Orwig at sweeper anchored the defense.
"Overall, we did very well today," said Jensen. "The guys played with guts and put some things together."
Sisters will host Cascade on Thursday, September 4.
