Girls soccer shuts out La Pine

Marin Allen scored a three-goal "hat trick" to lead the Lady Outlaws soccer team to a 9-0 shutout at home against La Pine on Thursday, September 11.

Allen took a cross from McKenzie Cooper at the seven-minute mark for Sisters' first goal. Allen's shot was from 10 yards out and landed just to the left of the keeper. Allen scored again six minutes later off a cross from Mindy Marr to boost the Outlaws to a 2-0 lead.

Marr scored Sisters' third goal at the 24-minute mark. Kelly Cole made a shot to cross Marr who shot a bullet straight down the middle and into the net.

The Outlaws next three goals came from Cole, Karah Herr and Kiana Jiminez, respectively. Marr recorded the assist on all three goals. Cole's goal was a great shot and the Hawk's keeper didn't have a chance. Herr took her shot on a sprint in front of the defense, went one on one with the keeper and drove the ball in for the goal. Jiminez's shot was up and over the keeper's head into the center of the net.

Sisters held a commanding 6-0 lead at the half.

Coach Nik Goertzen said, "At the start of the second half I called the horses off and rested some kids."

Herr scored her second goal of the game at the 69-minute mark. Allen crossed the ball to Herr who was running at a full sprint. Karah kicked the ball with her left foot past the keeper and scored from 12 yards out.

"It was a great pass and a great shot," said Goertzen.

At the 73-minute mark Cole crossed the ball over to Allen who scored to complete her hat trick.

At that point, Goertzen switched his offense and defense. Loryn Cummins scored unassisted from 14 yards out to seal the Outlaw win. Goertzen told The Nugget that Cummins' put forth great effort on a nice shot that landed just left of the keeper.

"We had good ball placement today and we finished the ball well," said Goertzen. "Basically, we took it to them in the first half and ran circles around them in the second half.

"Marin's (Allen) hat trick was a first since I've coached here and I hope for many more. Mindy (Marr) did a great job today and finished with four assists. She's unselfish and has a great ability to distribute the ball well," added Goertzen.

The Outlaws will host Marist at home on Tuesday, September 15.
