News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Kyle Martin Whipps

Our beloved son and brother died Saturday, September 6. A memorial service was held on Friday, September 12, 2008 at Sisters Community Church.

Kyle was born in Portland, Oregon, September 29, 1986 to mother Penny and father Norm Whipps. He grew up in the Portland area and moved to Sisters, Oregon in the sixth grade, graduating from Sisters High School in 2005.

Kyle swam on the Sisters varsity swim team and won a silver medal in the 200 individual medley relay at the state meet his senior year. Kyle was a gifted musician and songwriter, who enjoyed playing the guitar and singing in the Sisters High School jazz choir. A musical highlight was the year he sang backup for Susie Bogguss in the Sisters Starry Night concert series.

Kyle was a kindhearted, caring person who loved his family and friends. He especially enjoyed spending quality time with his many cousins. One of his favorite pastimes was hiking and camping in the Central Oregon Cascades. He had recently moved home to Sisters, to be near family while he saved for an extended mission trip to work in Kapchorwa, Uganda.

Kyle is survived by his mother Penny; father Norm and his wife Venise; brother Tom and his wife Tiffany; sister Heidi; younger brother Chace; grandparents Don and Pat Jacobson and Ray and Betty Whipps; along with a large extended family.

A memorial fund, The Kyle Whipps Donation Account, account #17033608, has been established in his honor at Bank of the Cascades, East Bend Forum Branch, 2630 N.E. Hwy. 20, Bend, Oregon 97701.
