News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Outlaws boys soccer team had a rough week with a 4-1 loss at Madras on Tuesday, September 16, and then a 2-0 loss at Henley four days later.
At Madras, Sam Orwig scored an unassisted goal with five minutes remaining in the game to avoid the shutout. Madras' keeper came out of the box and blocked Orwig's first attempt. The ball came loose and Sam punched it in to score.
"They (Madras) played more inspired than us and beat us to the ball," said Coach Rob Jensen. "We didn't play up to our potential."
On Saturday, the Outlaws were shut out 2-0 by the Hornets. Henley scored both their goals in the first half and held on for the win.
Jensen told The Nugget that the Outlaws defense has improved and noted the fine play of Chris Waters, Kody Johns, Sam Orwig, Sam Quinn and Tanner Smith.
"Our defense played really well today and we're coming together," said Jensen. "We've had a tough pre-season but that's what we needed to prepare for league."
Keeper Joey Farruggia, who suffered a lower back sprain in the Outlaws' game last week against Central, returned to play and according to Jensen is almost back at 100 percent. Sisters also returned Scotty Everson and Scotty Bowen who have been out with pulled hamstrings.
Sisters will open league play at home against Pleasant Hill on Monday, September 22, and travel to Marist on Wednesday, September 24.
