News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The boys soccer team had a week of extremes. The Outlaws shut out Pleasant Hill 3-0 in their league opener on Monday, September 22, and then lost in a 6-0 shutout to Marist two days later.
In Monday's action, Sam Quinn got the Outlaws started with a goal from 15 yards out and at the half Sisters held a 1-0 lead.
At the 60-minute mark Scott Everson recovered a shot that deflected off the crossbar and punched it in for a goal that pushed Sisters to a 2-0 advantage.
Fifteen minutes later Kevin Marquardt scored Sisters' final goal in the contest.
Keeper Joey Farruggia finished with six saves.
Coach Rob Jensen told The Nugget that the Outlaws defense played well and did a good job of containing the ball.
Midfielder Sam Orwig said, "Our entire defense did a great job today and the passing between our midfield and defense was really good."
Two days later, the shoe was on the other foot.
The Spartans came out with a lot of fire and scored five of their six goals in the first half.
Sisters played much better in the second half and held the Spartans to just one goal which was the result of a penalty kick.
"Today we were flat and didn't transition well. Marist is a good team but it will be a completely different game when we play them at home," said Jensen.
Sisters will host Cottage Grove on Wednesday, October 1.
