Boys soccer team loses one and ties one

Sisters lost 5-1 to Marist on Tuesday, October 14, and two days later tied Elmira 3-3.

Sisters went down early in Tuesday's game against Marist and trailed 4-0 at the half. David Liming kept the Outlaws from a shutout with a goal at the 57-minute mark on a penalty kick (PK). Max Quinn was fouled inside the 18-yard box and Liming scored on the PK to close the Spartan lead to 4-1.

Marist scored their final goal three minutes later and the game ended in a 5-1 loss for Sisters.

Jenson told The Nugget that Marist (No. 2 in league) is a good team that took advantage of the Outlaws' mental errors and exploited their weaknesses.

Two days later the Outlaws wrapped up their week with a 3-3 tie against Elmira.

Sam Orwig was a key player for Sisters, with two goals in the contest and an assist on the third and final goal.

Elmira got on the scoreboard first with a goal at the four-minute mark and took a quick 1-0 lead.

Four minutes later the Falcons were called for a foul in the goal box and the Outlaws took a penalty kick. Orwig scored on the PK with a shot that landed in the right corner of the net to tie the game 1-1.

Thirty minutes later Elmira scored, and at the half held a 2-1 lead.

Elmira scored 10 minutes into the second half on a corner kick, and pushed to a 3-1 advantage.

"There was really a momentum swing in their (Elmira's) direction," said Jensen. "We couldn't match their intensity of play. We were working hard but not as one."

Orwig scored his second goal of the contest with eight minutes left on the clock. Orwig battled through several defenders, forced the ball into the net and closed the Falcon lead to 3-2.

With two minutes left in the game Orwig made a great cross to Lee Elder, who through sheer determination and effort punched it in to tie the game at 3-3.

Regulation play ended and the game went into overtime. Neither team was able to finish the ball in OT and the game ended in a deadlock.

"We had several opportunities to score in OT but just couldn't capitalize," said Jensen.

Jensen told The Nugget that the Outlaws will be tightening up the screws as they wrap up league play.

The Outlaws will took on Cottage Grove on Tuesday, October 21, and will travel to Junction City on Thursday, October 23.
