Irene D. Peck died peacefully at home October 18t at the age of 86.
She was born January 26, 1922, at Beaver City, Nebraska. Irene moved to Oregon in 1939, living in Butteville, Portland, Durkey, Oakridge, finally settling with family in Sisters in 1955.
Irene retired from the U.S. Forest Service after 27 years of service.
She will be remembered for her cheerful smile and willingness to volunteer for local events.
During the past 53 years in Sisters, she was a member of the PTA, Rebekah Lodge, Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, Sisters Chamber of Commerce, Sisters Rodeo Association, Grand Marshall of the Sisters Rodeo Parade, Civil Air Guard and COCA.
Irene loved family gatherings, traveling extensively to visit family members and was especially fond of her trips to the Oregon Coast and Reno. Irene was featured in the local newspaper; the interviewer wrote "Irene looks up at the towering ponderosa pine tree in her yard with a special fondness. I hope I can stay put for a long time."
Her wish was granted; she could see that same tree from her bedroom window.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother and a grandson, Jeff Nesbitt. She is survived by her children; Sharon Nesbitt, Karen Langeliers, Douglas Cole and stepdaughter Marlene Glasgow; a brother, Richard Martin of Norton, Kansas, a sister Betty Buttman of Del Norte, Colorado; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held Sunday, October 26, at the Sisters Rodeo meeting hall.
