School Local Option levy fails; Kellstrom, Bogart, Thompson lead in council race - Updated Wednesday, November 5, 9:45 a.m.

The renewal of the Sisters School District Local Option levy has failed by a margin of 52 percent (No) to 48 percent (Yes).

The measure received 1,738 votes in favor; 1893 votes were cast in opposition.

The 75 cents per $1,000 in assessed valuation levy provides some 9 percent of the Sisters School District budget for the past nine years, amounting to approximately $1 million each year.

In the Sisters City Council race, Lon Kellstrom won 389 votes to hold his seat. Jerry Bogart earned a seat with 302 votes and Pat Thompson may have edged out incumbent Mayor Brad Boyd by a single vote, 296 to 295 to secure the last seat on the council. (Update: The Deschutes County Clerk's Office reported earlier this morning that some votes have yet to be counted in the Sisters precinct, which could change the outcome of the election).

Wendy Holzman received 290 votes.
