News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws had four players selected to all-league teams this year. Fe Pledger, Shea Kotal and Jessie Snow were first team all-league selections. Haylee Schaab earned second team all-league honors.
Fe Pledger not only earned first team honors but was also voted Player of the Year. Pledger is an outside hitter for the Outlaws and plays all the way around. Fe is the team kill leader with 244 kills on the season. She also contributed 163 digs, 19 blocks and led the team with 57 aces.
"Fe dominated in our league this year and was the clear-cut choice. Fe completely took her game to a new level this year. She was a unanimous vote to first team all-league, is co-captain of our team and our speaking captain," said Coach Diane Bremer.
Shea Kotal also earned first team all-league honors. Kotal plays right side for the Outlaws and has been crucial to their serving success. Shea finished the season with a 97 percent serving percentage and 87 kills.
"Shea is very deserving of this award," said Bremer. "She comes out every day to practice and games, and her level of effort and attitude never dips from being totally all-out. She is an incredibly versatile player and has gotten stronger and more powerful and more accurate. She did some setting for us early on in the season due to player injuries and guided us to victory. I am so pleased that the coaches in our league recognized her for the crucial role she plays."
Jessie Snow was also a first team all-league selection. Snow plays libero for the Outlaws and has been their leader on defense.
"Jessie is a vocal leader and expects perfection from herself," said Bremer. "She is the dig leader for the team with 280. Jessie is also a primary server for us. Jessie's serving percentage is 94, but note that she jump serves every ball. We acknowledge that our success as a team begins with our back row, and Jessie sets the bar high. She is clearly the best libero in our league and, I believe, in the state."
Haylee Schaab earned second team all-league honors. Schaab logged 137 kills and 17 blocks for the season.
"You don't have to be in the gym long before you notice the front row attacks of Haylee Schaab," said Bremer. "Haylee is very athletic and has incredible body control around the net. She can play the tight ball without a net violation and she will win nine times out of 10 on a joust with an opponent due to her vertical jump reach. Haylee is a fierce competitor and is only a junior. Haylee was the Quest Player of the Game as a sophomore in the championship match of 2007. She took the crowd by surprise with her hard hitting swings and really was a driving force in our championship conquest."
Diane Bremer was named Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.
