Sisters rings in the holidays

Folks lined Hood Avenue for the annual Sisters Christmas Parade on Saturday, many wearing holiday scarves and hats despite balmy temperatures that made it hard to think of sleighs, snow and reindeer.

The annual parade, sponsored by the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce, is a reflection of Sisters' small-town rural heritage, featuring lots of horses, some goats, donkeys, a couple of mules - all appropriately attired in red and green.

They kept Mike Scherrer's Bobcat and shovel crew plenty busy, but they delighted the children who lined the parade route.

Ann Richardson's miniature sleigh-pulling Corgies were a hit as they are each year.

"Look at how well-behaved those dogs are!" one woman cried. "Not like our labs!"

Indeed.

Girl Scouts and pre-schoolers marched down the parade route in style, handing out candy canes to eager viewers and a few classic cars livened up the proceedings.

But the grand finale was what the kids were waiting for. Frosty the Snowman led the way for Santa and Mrs. Claus, who paused to pose for pictures with eager youngsters as the parade wound down.

Then, those kiddies followed Santa over to the Chamber Visitors Center where the jolly old elf offered his lap and a kindly ear for children who offered up their Christmas lists and a smile for mom and dad's camera.
