Bell and Boyd honored at final council meeting

The Sisters City Council conducted their final meeting of the year on Thursday, December 11. It was also the last meeting for outgoing councilors Shawna Bell and Brad Boyd. Both were presented with a plaque and a certificate in thanks for their service to the city.

Mayor Boyd presented Councilor Bell with an additional certificate in the form of a graph, outlining her contributions to the council. Bill Merrill presented Mayor Boyd with his certificate and plaque and he read a proclamation listing Boyd's accomplishments on behalf of the city.

It was a very long document.

Most of the seats in the council chamber were filled with community members there to petition the council on various matters.

Earl Schroeder of the Sisters Veterans of Foreign Wars post asked the council to approve a calendar of dates in which U.S. flags will be posted on Sisters streets. The VFW Post will also put up and take down the flags.

Richard Esterman, a promoter of various festivals in Sisters, requested that the July arts and crafts festival be allowed to move from its present location at Creekside City Park to Oak Street. His request was for a one-year trial basis.

City manager Eileen Stein requested the city accept the donation of a wild stallion sculpture from Lorenzo Ghiglieri, to be placed on the west side of the new East Cascade Avenue alignment.

Each request was approved unanimously by the council.
