City works to minimize local street flooding

Each winter certain spots in Sisters turn into miniature lakes as rain or snowmelt fill low spots on streets and overwhelm dry wells.

The City of Sisters is trying to fix that problem.

Crews have been out in Sisters for the past week improving drainage at street corners and fixing sunken grades to prevent standing water.

The deep "lake" by Sisters Elementary School will be eliminated by a street project that gets rid of a low spot where water builds up so high that it nearly turns an SUV into an amphibious vehicle.

The work is being handled by the City of Sisters Public Works Department.
