Girls basketball team falls short against Madras

The Lady Outlaws basketball team played even with the White Buffaloes in the final two periods of the game on Tuesday, December 16, at Madras, but lost the battle 56-48.

Madras held a six-point advantage over the Outlaws at the end of the first quarter with a score of 17-11. The White Buffs outscored Sisters by two in the second period and went up 31-23 at the half.

Coach Kevin Cotner said, "Chelsie McConville displayed her shooting ability tonight with four three-pointers and 19 points. She really carried the offensive load for us tonight."

McConville also had three offensive rebounds in the contest.

Danielle Allen scored eight points in the five minutes she was on the court and led the team with seven rebounds. Kiana Jiminez added seven points. Susan Ruettgers held Madras' star player to just seven points with her relentless defense.

Cotner said, "We are continuing to use this pre-season to work on different components of our game. Tonight we were offensively aggressive but failed to lock down the defensive end of the court. I was happy with the effort and intensity of the girls, but now we need to start channeling that intensity into productive possessions and defensive court awareness. I hope that the girls took and learned a lot about the game of basketball and themselves tonight. I continue to be excited about this team and this game."

The Outlaws were scheduled to play at Burns on Tuesday, December 23, and host Rogue River on Friday, December 26. The annual Sisters Holiday Tournament will be Monday and Tuesday, December 29-30.
