Outlaws win two on the hardwood

The boys basketball team held on to secure a 58-56 victory over the White Buffaloes at home on Tuesday, December 16, and three days later easily defeated Crook County 54-38.

Madras likes to play a fast-paced game. In Tuesday's game against the White Buffs, Sisters' strategy was to take that speed away, slow down the tempo and control the pace of the game.

The Outlaws game plan worked and at the half Sisters held a two-point lead over Madras at 31-29. In the third quarter the Outlaws' defense held the White Buffs to only three points.

Madras fought back and made a big run in the final period and cut the Outlaws' lead to two. Time ran out on the clock and Sisters secured the win.

"I thought the kids executed our game plan perfectly," said Coach Jake Rothauge. "Everybody did their job for four quarters and it worked."

Ross Erickson led the Outlaws with 23 points.

Rothauge told The Nugget that he was impressed with Tyler Miller's selfless attitude and also noted Levi Rowe and Kevin Wistrom, who contributed timely baskets in the game.

Sisters dominated play and maintained control all four quarters in the win over Crook County on Friday.

At the close of the first quarter Sisters was up by six at 12-6. In the second period the Outlaws defense picked up, and the floodgates opened on offense. At the half Sisters had pushed to a 32-13 advantage.

Sisters held the lead the entire second half and secured the win.

Drew Harrison led the Outlaws with 15 points, including five three-pointers. Ross Erickson and Tyler Miller both contributed 14 points. Miller led the team with eight rebounds.

The Outlaws are to host Burns on Tuesday, December 23. The annual Sisters Holiday Tournament will be held Monday and Tuesday, December 29-30.
