News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Sisters is socked in for the holidays

Folks in the Sisters Country have begun to wonder if it is ever going to stop snowing.

For the past week, storm after storm has dropped the white stuff over the Sisters Country, accompanied by frigid temperatures which ensured that the snow would stick around.

Most roofs in Sisters are carrying about two feet of snow - and icicles just about that long.

Hoodoo Mountain Resort opened last week with 37 inches of snow, with more coming down by the hour. The Autobahn Tubing Area was expected to open on Christmas Eve.

Road conditions have been dicey, though no major accidents were reported in the immediate Sisters area. Several drivers, however, slid into ditches and at least one truck was stranded in snow on the side of Highway 20.

The National Weather Service called for more snow on Wednesday, December 24, and chances of snow showers through the weekend. Warming temperatures could bring a mix of rain and snow to lower elevations over the weekend.

Forecasts indicate snow with the possibility of some rainfall right through the holidays, so the Sisters Country will usher in the New Year under cloudy skies.
