Sisters Library will host art exhibit

The Sisters Library is about a lot more than books, computers and a community meeting place. It's also about art.

Starting Friday evening, January 16, at 5:30 p.m., the Sisters Library Fourth Annual Art Exhibit will open.

More than 150 local artists have been invited to display their work at the Sisters Library exhibit, which runs from January 16 to February 25.

The public is invited to a reception on January 16, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. to meet the artists and preview their works. Some works of art will be available for sale, with sales arrangements made through the Friends of the Sisters Library Art Committee.

Artists displaying their work at the exhibit will bring up to three pieces of wall-hung art and/or five pieces of the other art forms, such as jewelry, ceramics, and sculpture.

Among the many local artists who will be presenting their work will be Clay Warburton, a fourth grade teacher at Sisters Elementary School. Warburton works in acrylics in an art style he developed while studying with Paul Alan Bennett, well known Sisters artist.

"I try to do the best I can with things that I see, how color works together and what my kids want me to do," Warburton said.

Clay also listens to music while exploring the blending of colors into objects of art.

Larry Dyer, one of the artists who has exhibited his exquisite hand-crafted jewelry boxes at every Sisters Library Art Exhibit, will again be bringing his most recent designs from exotic woods. Kathy Deggendorfer will be showing her painting, "Wedding With a Heartbeat," a floral piece she painted for her daughter's wedding while doing a segment of OPB's Oregon Art Beat. She will show a reproduction done in the French style of Giclee (gee-clay) fine art, a color reproduction process that reveals the rich colors and textures of the original.

The first art exhibit was held in January 2006 in celebration of the grand opening of the new Sisters Library.
