News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Central Oregon's own Cascade Horizon Band will return to the Sisters High School stage at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 25, for the concert group's sixth annual winter concert.
The performance of Broadway show tunes, motion picture themes, marches, Big Band numbers and assorted favorites is free to the public.
Cascade Horizon Band, under the direction of Sue Steiger, started with 12 members, and has grown rapidly to one of the region's largest and most popular concert organizations, with 70-plus members. The CHB repertoire has stretched in musical interest, variety and difficulty to include such classics as "Porgy and Bess" and "The Pines of Rome." Both pieces will be performed in the Sisters concert.
CHB is affiliated with the New Horizons International Music Association, which now has more than 150 bands and orchestras for senior musicians. The band's membership includes players from Sisters, Camp Sherman, Tumalo, Bend, Powell Butte, Sunriver, Redmond, Prineville and other rural areas.
The performance will conclude with Cascade Horizon Band's signature tribute to America's military men and women, "Marches of the Armed Forces."
