News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
For Anna Rasmussen, excelling in school has always been important.
With PSAT scores well above average, Rasmussen received the National Merit Scholarship award. She was also accepted into the QuestBridge Scholarship program, allowing her to apply to 10 different colleges with all application fees waived, and she is placed at the top of the list for financial aid.
Rasmussen joined the Sisters School District in second grade and has thrived here ever since. She has worked hard to maintain straight 'A's throughout her high school years and has high hopes for her future.
What motivates her academically and in the daily challenges of life?
"Getting a career where I am actually changing the world around me," she said.
Anna's post-high-school plans include attending a private university where she intends to major in environmental science and minor in social science.
School work is not Rasmussen's only priority; she also strives to better the community as well.
She is the ASG activities director and is involved in Key Club, Sparrow Club and Lit Magazine. Anna is an active member in We the People, a class offered through Sisters High School where students study the Constitution and compete against other schools in applying their knowledge.
When she's not working hard to maintain her 4.1 GPA or taking an active role in enhancing her community, Anna finds time for hobbies. She enjoys theater arts and loves to snowboard, hike, do arts and crafts and spend free time outdoors.
"A major part of my life is being outside," she said.
Rasmussen's achievements don't stop at becoming a National Merit Scholar. She was given the Outstanding German and Honors Math Student of the Year award and also received "Best Documentary" honors in the Sisters High School film festival.
With hard work and dedication, Anna will have completed all four advanced placement classes offered at Sisters High School by the time of graduation this spring.
