News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Broken Top Veterinary Clinic has a new veterinarian on staff. Dr. Beth Young joined the practice part-time last summer and came on full-time at the beginning of this year.
She came to the Sisters area by a circuitous route. Born and educated in Ohio, Dr. Young graduated from Ohio State University in 1992, majoring in agricultural science. She completed her veterinary schooling at the same university in 1996. The Ohio State University veterinary school offers its students a broad education in both large and small animals, which Dr. Young preferred to specialized training.
She interned at a large animal clinic in Littleton, Colorado, treating mostly equine patients. Her next stop was in Southern California at a mixed-animal practice where the patients were small animals and horses. Dr. Young began her trek northward with a move to the Sacramento area, where she worked for seven years. She bought a practice in Marysville, California, just north of Sacramento and owned that for five years. After selling that practice, she moved to Oregon.
"There are lots of opportunities for experienced veterinarians in Oregon," she said. Central Oregon appealed more than the wet, western side of the state for the usual reasons, she added.
Her special interests are in surgery and dentistry. Dr. Young looks forward to her role at the clinic, developing those interests and expanding the services offered.
Broken Top Veterinary Clinic treats a wide variety of patients of all shapes and sizes, from pets to domestic livestock. Nearly all their services are mobile, and there is a barn on site for treating large animals.
