News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
A team of dedicated friends and volunteers has been working tirelessly since Doug and Katie Cavanaugh's workshop was destroyed in a fire last month to organize a benefit concert to raise funds for the couple.
Doug's business, Cavanaugh Logging, was severely affected by the loss of his shop, and insurance payments will only partially cover the replacement building, vehicles and equipment lost in the fire.
"Doug and Katie have contributed so much to our community and have such a large presence in Sisters, that dozens of people have asked how they could help," said Janet Zuelke, who is organizing the event. "Since Doug and Katie are musicians, it's only natural that a benefit concert is the best way to get their friends involved."
The concert is scheduled for Friday, February 27, 8 p.m. at Three Creeks Brewing Co., and will feature an impressive lineup of local musicians, including a special reunion performance by the Blue D'arts. Also on the bill are Dennis McGregor with Peter Heitoff & Patrick Lombardi; Brad Tisdel; Dale Largent; and The Anvil Blasters. Each artist will perform two songs in a concert setting, and the evening will be topped off with dancing and a music jam.
Tickets are $20, and in addition to the music a no-host bar and the Three Creeks regular menu will be available.
"We're also asking the community to help out by donating raffle items as an additional fund-raising source," Janet said. "We'll be selling raffle tickets and are looking for prizes that can be anything from lunch at a local restaurant or a massage therapy session to higher-ticket items like weekend getaways or a gym membership."
To donate raffle items call Terri Daniel at 549-4004.
