Pullig-Gomez strives for excellence

With outstanding PSAT scores, Chrissy Pullig-Gomez received the National Hispanic Recognition Scholar Award, a recognition for Hispanics with above-average PSAT scores. She is also a National Merit Scholar.

Although she clearly has a talent for academic excellence, she works extremely hard to maintain her 4.2 GPA and strives to be the best she can possibly be.

"I definitely have to work really hard, especially right now with AP (advanced placement) calculus," she said.

Pullig-Gomez has been accepted to the University of Washington and has applied to numerous other schools including Cal State, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and USC. Although she has submitted her major as "undeclared," she plans to focus on environmental studies. After college, she hopes to join the Peace Corps.

"I definitely want to study something that I love somewhere that I love and I want to be content with how my college experience goes," she said.

Passionate about water as a valuable resource, Pullig-Gomez has a zeal for someday designing water treatment plants.

"There's just a lot I want to do in life, I want to find a career that I love and that I feel good about," she said.

Chrissy is an accomplished Art and Drama student at Sisters High School. She is currently cast as Viola, a lead role in the high school play, Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night." Other hobbies Chrissy enjoys include belly dancing and yoga.

She has served over 800 hours of community service and has done volunteer work translating for the Hispanic community and tutoring Spanish-speaking children in English.

Pullig-Gomez has completed four AP classes and has worked diligently to reach a point in her life where she is pleased with herself. She has fun working hard to achieve her dreams.

"I want to do well and I want to be the best version of myself I can possibly be," she said.

One of Chrissy's many achievements was her work on the "We the People" team, a class offered at Sisters High School where students get the opportunity to take a deeper look into the U.S. government and then compete against different schools armed with knowledge of the Constitution. Her team won the district competition and took fourth in state, only 24 points behind the first-place team.

Pullig-Gomez has contributed to countless organizations. She is a youth group leader at her church and a member of countless organizations including the Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors, High School Administrative Council, Sparrow Club and Key Club.

Chrissy has had numerous awards bestowed upon her including: the Best in Sisters Award; Gold Presidential Academic Award; Outstanding Achievement in Theater Arts Award; and the Silver Key Scholastic Art Award.
