Leadership training continues in Sisters

Rural Development Initiatives (RDI) and the Ford Family Foundation hosted a continuation of their leadership training seminars in a Spanish Language workshop Sunday at the Sisters Park & Recreation District building.

A group of 13 attendees from both Bend and Sisters participated in the training given by Sara Curiel Robles of RDI.

The Spanish Language workshops are identical in content to the standard Community Leadership Training programs offered throughout Oregon and here in Sisters over the last few years.

Although not all participants at this session were native Spanish speakers, the English language was checked at the door and did not seem to be missed at all.

While the session started off exploring the key attributes of dynamic public speaking, Robles explained that the goal for the session was development of a project that the group would develop and manage themselves as a team-building and leadership exercise over the upcoming months.

"We hope to have the group identify something that they would like to take on that is achievable for them as a first project. The successful outcome is an important focus of the training," she said.

Lisa Clark, the Regional Community Development Coordinator for RDI, said that she has always been impressed with the level of community participation in Sisters. In her work with the CATS team and Comprehensive Plan project she has watched much of the community learning to work well together toward a better future.

"The leadership programs we are doing are great opportunities. It is especially good seeing people crossing cultural boundaries for this," she said.
