Student art featured at gala

Sisters K-4 students have been busy putting the final touches on one-of-a-kind art projects to be auctioned at the Green & Gold Gala Auction on Friday, March 6, at Brand 33, Aspen Lakes Golf Course.

"The students have created quilts, paintings, ceramic pieces, photographs, wind chimes, framed art interpretations and more. They're very creative pieces of art," said Melanie Petterson, coordinator of the event. "We're planning to have many parents join the fun. We'd also like to extend an invitation to the entire community. It's the big event of the year for the elementary school."

In addition to the children's creations, members of the business community have donated auction items including: landscaping; dental exam; dog sitting; orthodontics; coffee for a year; cosmetics and more.

The gala will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, March 6, with music, hors d'oeuvres and a no-host bar. $25 tickets are on sale now through next Monday, March 2 and can be purchased at Sisters Elementary School, Brand 33 Restaurant at Aspen Lakes, Metamorphosis Spa and Leavitt's. After Monday, March 2, tickets may be purchased at the door for $35.

The money raised will support the school's Art Literacy program, Artist in Residence, Science Day, and Author Assembly programs.

The event is open to the public. Childcare is available by reservation. For more information, contact Melanie Petterson, 948-9722, or visit greengoldgala.blogspot.com.
