News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters High School boys lacrosse team returns only four varsity players to their squad this season. Seniors Lucas Reitman, Jordan Kolb, David Liming and John Connolly will return for their final season with the Outlaws.
Reitman will play attack, and his responsibility will be to control the ball at that position.
"Lucas needs to show the new and younger players what it means to be an Outlaws lacrosse player, which means he needs to be that ski racer out there. He has no fear and he needs to show the others what we can accomplish when you have no fear," said Coach Bill Rexford.
Kolb will play midfield and will bring to the team a never-give-up attitude.
Liming will return as the brain of the defense. David will be calling the defense and will mark up against the best player on the opposing team. Rexford told The Nugget he also expects Liming to help the younger players learn how to work together.
Connolly, a very tenacious player, will play at midfield.
"John exemplifies that it's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog, and Connolly's our dog," said Rexford. "He's my little big man."
Rexford stated that all four returning players will need to be coaches on the field because they are the only ones that have seen a varsity game.
"None of the games we play will we be favored like we were last year," said Rexford. "These boys need to believe that we can do it and show the other boys how to do it."
Rexford plans to take up to 20 players to fill his varsity squad and the 16 remaining spots are still up for grabs.
"It's super competitive and we re going to use that to our advantage," said Rexford.
The lacrosse squad has a full pre-season ahead to prepare them for league. Before league starts mid-March, the Outlaws will travel to Boise, Tualatin and Burns and match up with teams from Utah, Idaho and Washington.
