News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Sisters entrepreneur is One Handy Man

Dave Berray decided he liked being an available handyman so much that he quit his long-time job at Eberhard's Dairy and became One Handy Man. That was 18 months ago and he hasn't regretted the decision.

An all-around-fix-it guy doesn't really have a specialty, but Berray said that lately many of his jobs have been helping clients with the transition to digital TV. He'll set up converter boxes, install new antennae and has unpacked a few new television sets. Several clients are senior citizens, who he diplomatically describes as technology-challenged, so his service is appreciated.

"I really enjoy working for the Sisters senior community," he said.

Berray's ready smile and cheerful demeanor make him easy to relate to.

One Handy Man also does home maintenance repairs and checks. He'll keep an eye on snowbird and second homes, checking them several times a month for absent owners. He maintains landscaping and sprinkler systems, and can install both.

Berray is adamant that no job is too small - he'll cheerfully change a light bulb - but he can also tackle small remodels. He is a licensed general contractor and has a Sisters City Business License. If the job requires it, he has a small crew available.

Most of Berray's clients are in the Sisters Country. Recently, he's helped a few with moves out of the area, loading and transporting households to New Mexico and Arizona.
