The Lady Outlaws tennis team finished with a 4-4 tie against the White Buffaloes of Madras, on Wednesday, March 18.
Maddie Green (No. 3 singles) and Marin Allen (No. 4 singles) both earned wins in their matches.
Green defeated Charlieann Henksham in two sets with scores of 6-4, 6-2.
Coach Marti Dale said, "Maddie played like a backboard. Every ball hit to her she hit back until her opponent missed."
Allen defeated Penny Vanzuka 6-0 in the first set and earned the win at 7-5 in the second set.
"It was a power game with a lot of hard hitting" said Dale. "Marin was able to block power shots and then Vanzuka hit them out."
Sarah Brown (No. 1 singles) lost 3-6, 3-6 to Addie Gutierrez and Bethany Backman (No. 2 singles) suffered a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Cassie Drew.
Both the No. 3 doubles team (Jordyn Valdez and Peggy Barrett) and the No. 4 doubles team (Jenn Houk and Jessie Higgins) earned wins for the Outlaws.
Valdez and Barrett beat Samantha Sullers and Shani Rehwinkel in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. Jordyn and Peggy started out the match a little slow but were able to adjust their game. They became stronger as the sets went on and were more consistent at keeping the ball in play.
Houk and Higgins defeated Dixie Ledford and Kayla Flowers 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, in their first varsity match as freshmen.
"They are going to be something to watch," said Dale. "They're athletic and very good. Serving is their strength and they are good at the net. They are aggressive and not afraid."
Jacquie Bryan and Jenna Jacobson (No. 1 doubles) lost to Elizabeth Gomez and Mariana Jiminez 4-6, 3-6. The No. 2 doubles team of Tiffany Biggelow and Olivia Miller lost 4-6, 6-7 to Stephanie Stanlie and Courtney Lindgrin.
"Overall I was really pleased with how everyone played, considering we've only had two practices on the outside courts," Dale said.
The Outlaws will pick up play after spring break with a match at Junction City on Tuesday, March 7.
