Lacrosse team loses in overtime

The boys lacrosse team suffered a disappointing 5-4 loss, in overtime, to the Redmond Panthers on Tuesday, March 17.

Coach Bill Rexford told The Nugget the team came away from their first game of the season with a "to do" list.

"We had played six preseason games, had improved in some areas, knew we needed to work on other areas, but after Tuesday's game it is becoming clearer what needs to happen on and off the field in order for us to get better," said Rexford.

Rexford stated the highlights of the game are hard to describe. The Outlaws' effort was there but it was lacking execution.

"We seemed to turn the ball over at key times and not take advantage of Redmond's mistakes," he said. "We took more shots than Redmond, picked up more ground balls, and had less penalty minutes, which is a nice change from last year, but overall our inexperience showed more than anything else."

It was an exciting first game, and the Outlaws did wake up in the fourth quarter. The Outlaws were down 4-2 at the start of the period, and Beau Fitzke scored the tying goal with one minute left in the game.

Sisters had their chance in overtime, but Redmond scored and the game came to an end.

Rexford said, "The good news is that we get a little adversity at the start of the season. Our boys are going to get better as they are committed to try their hardest to make that happen."

Lucas Rietman scored two goals for Sisters. Justin Duvenick scored one goal and Beau Fitzke finished with one goal and one assist. Both Cavan Jacobsen and Cameron Valdez had one assist in the game.
