News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters High School's boys tennis team split their early season matches before going on a hiatus during spring break.
The team earned a win at Madras on Wednesday, March 18, after suffering a close 4-3 loss to Bend High a day earlier.
The March 18 match was a tie in wins and losses and the tie break was settled by the total number of sets won by each team, which earned Sisters the win with 10 sets to eight sets for the White Buffaloes.
Sean Tosello (No. 4 singles) defeated Rodrigo Gasper 6-2, 6-4 and was the only Outlaws singles player to earn a win at Madras.
"Sean played a solid all-court game and was able to pull out a nice win despite getting pushed a little in the second set," said Coach Boyd Stuwe.
The No. 1 brother duo, Sam and Ben Fullhart, defeated Josreel Pasikatan and Ryan Hutchins in two sets, 6-2, 6-3. Tom Bennett and Jake Thomas (No. 2 doubles) crushed Javier Pineda and Jaris Samayoa with scores of 6-0, 6-0.
"Tom and Jake did everything right in this match," said Stuwe. "They never allowed their opponents a bit of hope."
Andy Thomas and Ross Cristiano defeated Travis Foster and John Hernandez 6-4, 6-0.
"For their first time playing together, I was pleased with the way Andy and Ross played," said Stuwe. "The longer the match went on, the stronger they got."
Davis Rapp and Chris Water (No. 3 doubles) lost 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 to Bryan Gonzales and Sam Aquirre.
A day earlier the Outlaws lost 4-3 to Bend High.
Brothers Sam and Ben Fullhart (No. 1 doubles) defeated Chris Westfall and Steven Margness 6-7, 6-2, 7-6.
In the third set Sam and Ben were down 5-1, and saved three match points to win 8-6 in the third-set tiebreaker. At 6-6 in the tiebreak Sam hit a nice volley to go up.
"Ben's positive body gestures and coaching kept them believing they could pull it out," said Stuwe.
Tom Bennett and Jake Thomas (No. 2 doubles) earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jake Brown and Jon Simaing with consistent and steady play.
Matt Pilliod and Davis Rapp (No. 3 doubles) lost 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to Tyler Ash and Aidan Contreas.
Sean Tosello (No. 4 singles) beat Matt Sterling 7-5, 7-6 in a very close match. In the second set Tosello pulled it out in the tiebreak.
Colby Gilmore (No. 3 singles) took Forrest Baney to three sets but unfortunately lost the match. Gilmore won the first set 6-3 and then lost 6-0, 6-1.
