Letters to the Editor 04/08/2009

To the Editor:

I am writing this as an open letter to my neighbors in Panoramic. About two weeks ago, a neighbor's dog was hit and killed. The owners of the pet found her on the road, dead. They know that she should not have been running around, but there are many dogs that do in Panoramic and always have.

They are not complaining, I am.

This could have easily been a deer or even a child. The purpose of this note is to ask our neighbors to please slow down. Spring is upon us and we will soon have fawns crossing the roads. Many of us can remember the little fawns that have been hit on our roads.

When we posted the 20 MPH signs many years ago, it was not only to protect our roads, but our children and wildlife also. In five years we have gone from having maybe five children at the bus stop to as many as 20. On the paved parts of Panoramic, many people speed up. We will soon have bikers and joggers out again.

I am a driver that has annoyed my neighbors as I always follow the posted speed limit. I have had people pass me on our roads. The bus arrives at 7:05 a.m., so we leave 10 to 15 minutes early, and drive the speed limit.

Our road maintenance costs each of us as homeowners in Panoramic. Please respect our roads, our children, our recreation seekers and the wildlife that drew many of us to live out here. Just slow down a little, please.
