The Outlaws baseball team won three of their five games this week and saw marked improvement at the plate.
Sisters started off their week on Monday, April 6, with a 13-2 win over Culver in a non-league game. The following day the Outlaws defeated La Pine 4-3 at home in extra innings. Three days later Sisters notched a 12-2 victory in five innings at Junction City.
The Outlaws wrapped up the week with a doubleheader at home against the Huskies of Sweet Home. Sisters beat the Huskies 5-3 in the first game and lost the second game 10-6.
Sisters kicked off league on Tuesday, April 7, with a win over La Pine
Brandon Morgan got an infield base hit and scored on a passed ball to get the Outlaws on the scoreboard in the first inning.
Chase Kleint and Rodney Warner both scored in the fifth inning.
After seven innings the game was tied 3-3. La Pine was unable to score in the eighth and the Outlaws scored one to earn the 4-3 victory. In the bottom of the eighth, Max Stovall and Eric Carlson got on base with a walk. Carlson stole second and Stoval advanced on a pass ball. With no outs and runners on second and third, Sean Heagney hit a sacrifice fly to right center to score Stoval for the winning run.
Coach Steve Hodges told The Nugget it was nice to get the win and start the season with confidence but stated the Outlaws need to play better offensively.
"We've got to relax at the plate and begin to hit the ball with some power. We need more hard contacts as a team and we need to force teams to play defense," said Hodges.
Sisters had four runs on three hits and recorded one error in the contest. La Pine had three runs on nine hits and committed three errors. Heagney recorded 11 strikeouts and was Sisters' winning pitcher.
On Friday, Sisters defeated the Tigers of Junction City 12-2 in five innings.
The Outlaws had a big second inning and scored five. The highlight of the inning was a triple by Daniel Wiegand that knocked in three runs.
Brandon Morgan was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts.
A day later the Outlaws split games in the doubleheader against Sweet Home.
In the first game, Sisters made hay in the fourth inning. The Outlaws drove in three runs in the fourth, highlighted by Andrew Lessor's timely double which scored two. From there the Outlaws held off the Huskies with good defense and consistent pitching.
Kleint pitched six innings of the first game for the Outlaws and Heagney came in to wrap it up in the seventh.
Kleint, Morgan, Carlson and Weigand all had singles in the game and Stovall had two singles in the contest.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Outlaws had one bad inning which cost them the game. Sisters gave up five runs on two hits in the third due to a combination of both errors and walks.
Kleint went 3-4, Aaron Fegengush went 2-4 with an RBI, and Morgan had a single for an RBI. Lessor hit a sacrifice fly for an RBI.
In Monday's non-league game, the Outlaws beat Culver 13-2 in five innings.
The Outlaws will host Pleasant Hill on Thursday, April 16, then travel to Cottage Grove Monday, April 20.
