Boutique to host grand re-opening

Elements Boutique, tucked into the back of Barclay Square, is having a grand re-opening on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18.

Previously, the store was located in what owner Marjorie Brown called "a closet space" on Cascade Avenue. She'd have to step outside if more than two customers came in to browse.

No longer. The new space has plenty of room for the dresses, skirts, tops and trousers Brown hand selects from high-end boutiques that are going out of business. She also spends hours scouring thrift stores for designer pieces lurking at the back of crowded racks.

"I'm a clothes horse and I love a bargain," said Brown. Her ideal customer is a hard-core bargain shopper who loves quality clothing. None of the clothing in Elements is over $50.

"You can find more interesting things in a boutique," she said. Belts, shoes, handbags and "naughty corner" lingerie are displayed with flair.

Brown is also a jewelry artist, creating necklaces and earrings. She uses combinations of stones, beads and pearls, and lampwork and dichroic glass in natural colors. The new store enables her to display the pieces along a wall and in an expansive case. Custom orders for the jewelry are welcome.

Brown worked at The Jewel in Sisters for several years, and has always maintained an interest in retail, fashion and art. Elements Boutique allows her to combine all those interests in something she says others call a job. Brown calls it fun.

Elements Boutique is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday through Monday. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Call 771-4626.
