News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The boys golf team took third at the tournament held at the Meadow Lakes Course in Prineville on Thursday, April 9. The course was in great condition for the 12 participating teams.
Summit took top honors with a team score of 323, Crook County was runner-up one stroke back at 324 and Sisters placed third with a score of 331.
Jonathan Standen finished third overall with a score of 40/38 (78). He shot an eagle on the 14th hole (par five, 530 yards); his first eagle in a competitive tournament. Standen drove the ball 300 yards down the left side, 240 yards away from the pin. His next shot went over the water and onto the green. Standen got the eagle with a 25-foot uphill putt.
"It was pretty exciting," said Standen. "It got me back to even par on the back side. I made a birdie on the next hole to keep my momentum going."
Cody Farr-Baenziger shot an 81, Elio Keller an 83, Jeff Fought an 88 and Aaron Simundson finished with a 90.
"We're doing fine," said Coach Jeff Barton. "This course had four kids who had never played it before and that was huge. On any given day we're as good as any team in the area. We beat both Crook County and Summit earlier in the season, in the first match of the year. We're going to get better. We just need some decent weather."
Sisters will play at Awbrey Glen on April 14, and on April 20, the match will be held at the Bend Country Club.
