News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The boys tennis team defeated Cascade 6-1 on Friday, April 10, and a day later participated in a round robin tournament at Madras.
At Cascade, Will Newport played his best match of the season, playing for the first time at the No. 1 singles position. Newport controlled the match and won with scores of 6-3, 6-1.
Jake Thomas (No. 3 singles) played a great match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Justin Johnson.
"Jake was so dominating in the match that it was over in about 30 minutes," said Coach Boyd Stuwe.
Chris Waters (No. 4 singles) also recorded a win for the day. Waters beat Jarod English 6-3, 6-4, in his first varsity match of the year.
"This is Chris' first year playing tennis and I'm excited to see what he does with his obvious natural ability," said Stuwe.
All three doubles teams had great performances and notched wins for the day.
The No. 1 brother duo of Sam and Ben Fullhart defeated Sam Selender and Bruce Roller 6-0, 6-2. Stuwe told The Nugget that Sam and Ben work well together and they didn't give Cascade much hope in the match.
Thomas Bennett and Matt Pilliod (No. 2 doubles) earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ed Martenez and Tyler Harris. Bennett and Pilliod dominated at the net and it was obvious that was where the match was won.
Sean Tosello and Colby Gilmore (No. 3 doubles) defeated Sean Nutt and Alfonso Garcia 6-2, 6-3.
"I was really impressed with Sean and Colby's serves today," stated Stuwe. "They were serving like I'd expect from a No. 1 or No. 2 team."
A day later, the No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles players from Sisters, along with Redmond, Bend High, Madras, Cascade, Vale, Central and Hood River participated in a round robin tournament.
The Outlaws did not win any rounds, but had some nice individual victories.
Jake Thomas and Thomas Bennett played well and won three of their rounds in the No. 2 doubles position. Sam and Ben Fullhart, and Dylan Stuwe each had one win, respectively.
Sisters will play at Mountain View on Thursday, April 16, at Madras on the 17th and face Burns at home on Tuesday, April 21.
