News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws golf squad was runner-up at the five-team tournament held at the Arrowhead Golf Course on Thursday, April 9. The weather was a bit cool and the girls played in rain for a portion of the round.
Molalla finished first, with a team score of 350, and Sisters took second place at 401. Seaside shot a 460 for third, Silverton a 472 for fourth and The Dalles rounded out the scoring at 475.
Shelby Ross, who was fighting a cold and sore throat, led the Outlaws with a 44/41 for a total of 85 to finish third overall.
Ross recorded five pars, highlighted by her par on the 15th hole (par 4, 380 yards). She hit the ball 200 yards off the tee and her second shot placed her on the green. A long putt put her three inches from the hole and she tapped it in for the par. Ross ended her round with par on the 18th hole.
"I had an amazing putt," said Ross. "I hit it 35 feet uphill and it went right in."
Coach Mary Flande said, "Shelby played very consistent today. She's been working on her short game and it sure paid off for her today."
Stephanie Cole, in her first varsity tournament, shot a 100.
"Stephanie was a little nervous off the first tee but settled in and started to play her game. She played a pretty good round," said Flande. "I'm proud of her first outing as a varsity player."
Emily Rawls carded a 101, Hannah Harrer improved her front nine by seven strokes to finish at 115 and Paige Stevens rounded out the scoring with a 128.
"Emily had a rough day but kept battling and finished with a great par on a very difficult 18th hole," said Flande. "You have to be happy when a player is struggling but just keeps chipping away to improve her game."
The Lady Outlaws will play at the Mallard Creek Course in Sweet Home on Wednesday, April 15, and the following Tuesday, April 21, will play at the Middlefield Course in Cottage Grove.
