News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters defeated Crook County 5-3 on Monday, April 13, and on Friday, April 17, they swept their matches with a 7-0 win over Madras. On Thursday, Dylan Stuwe was the lone winner in the Outlaws' 7-1 loss against Mountain View
In Monday's match Dylan Stuwe (No. 2 singles) and Jake Thomas (No. 3 singles) both won their matches.
Stuwe defeated Brett Golden in two sets with scores of 7-5, 6-1.
Coach Boyd Stuwe said, "Dylan and Brett have been lifelong friends and they spent most of the first set catching up. With blowing snow, Dylan was getting cold and got a little more serious in the second set."
Thomas defeated Brady Slater 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
"Jake did a great job of getting it together in the third set," said Stuwe. "Slater was a solid player but Jake would not be denied."
Three of the four doubles teams also earned wins for the Outlaws.
Tom Bennett and Matt Pilliod (No. 2 doubles) beat Matt Harper and Jeremy Kirk in two sets, 6-1, 6-3. Bennett and Pilliod were steady from the backcourt and owned the net which was the biggest factor in the match.
Colby Gilmore and Sean Tosello (No. 3 doubles) cruised through the first set with a 6-2 win over Jeff Robidau and Luke Garret. The Crook County players rallied in the second set but the Outlaws duo got the 7-5 win.
"Sean and Colby played two strong games at 5-5 to secure the victory," said Stuwe.
Davis Rapp and Andy Thomas (No. 4 doubles) also notched a win. Rapp and Thomas beat Anthony Redden and Jered Anderson 7-6, 6-3.
"David and Andy led the whole way in the first set and were surprised to find themselves in a tiebreaker," said Stuwe. "They stepped it up and took the tie-breaker and finished off the match with a solid second set."
Three days later Stuwe defeated Kevin Kyger 6-2, 0-6, 7-6, (7-5) at Mountain View. Stuwe dominated the first set and then lost eight straight games to go down 0-2 in the third. From there he fought hard and saved two match points at 4-5, 30-40. It came down to a tiebreaker and Stuwe pulled off the win.
