News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Volunteer Faire at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, at the chamber office at 291 E. Main Ave.
Sisters Country residents are invited to come learn about different volunteer opportunities in Sisters and see how they can get involved. Refreshments and door prizes will be available.
Open to the public, the Sisters Country Volunteer Fair will provide a forum for local non-profit agencies to communicate their need for volunteers - and other contributors in the Sisters area - who are looking to rededicate themselves to supporting the local community.
"Community members are encouraged to come to this event and learn how they can give back to the Sisters Country," said Erin Borla, Executive Director of the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce. "We would like to draw some attention to our local non-profit organizations that require more volunteer support and donations than ever before. We are proud to be able to sponsor an event that will tap the cooperative spirit of our friends and neighbors."
Participating non-profit organizations include: Sisters Habitat for Humanity; the Sisters Branch of the Deschutes County Public Library; Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show; Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection District; Sisters Folk Festival; Sisters Ranger District; American Red Cross; Deschutes Land Trust; Sisters Country Clean-Up Day; Hospice of Redmond-Sisters; Sisters High School; Three Sisters Lions Club and more.
"Volunteering is a chance for me to give back to the community and help make Sisters the magical place it is," said Gary Miller, long-time community volunteer. "Plus, it's a lot of fun!"
