Developer proposes assisted-living facility

A Yakima, Washington based developer is considering creation of a senior independent assisted-living facility and community center in Sisters.

Mark Adolf, of Pinnacle Alliance Group, will host a public town hall meeting on Tuesday, May 19, at 5:30 p.m. at Sisters Fire Hall to discuss plans for the facility and to solicit public input. The meeting is sponsored by the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce.

According to Keith Sampson, who is acting as a community liaison for the developer, the facility would be locally owned.

"This will be presented to people locally who want an investment," he said. "We want it to be locally controlled."

The community center could be funded through philanthropic support.

Sampson said that the developer is looking closely at property in the McKenzie Meadows area, directly across McKinney Butte Road from Sisters Middle School. A senior living center has long been part of the vision of the owners of that property, Bill Willitts, Curt Kallberg and the Reed family.

Sampson said that land costs and construction costs have hit a point where such a project is economically feasible, and he noted that there is an evident need in the community, where there is a large and growing senior population.

No plans have yet been submitted to the city and the property has yet to be annexed into the City of Sisters, though voters have approved such an annexation.

"The main thing is just to open it up for discussion with the community," Sampson said.
