High Desert Chorale to perform

With the catchy program title of "Bach to Broadway," the High Desert Chorale will perform two free concerts this weekend. Led by Director Irene Liden, the Chorale is a group of about twenty Sisters area singers devoted to bringing quality musical entertainment to the people of Sisters.

In addition to Bach and Broadway tunes, the program will include spirituals and what Liden refers to as "oldies but goodies." Selections include "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows," "Smoke Gets in your Eyes," "Camelot," "Pajama Game," "Sister Act," and more.

Musical accompaniment will be provided by veteran pianist Adele McCready. One of the selections, "Down to the River to Pray," will be performed to a slide show, with photographs by Lola Knox and Kathy Reynolds and featuring Gary Miller on the banjo.

Liden has made her musical mark in Sisters by founding the High Desert Chorale last year and, prior to that, filling in as acting director of the Sisters Community Choir during a term when George Larson was on sabbatical. Liden has a degree in Voice/Opera Performance from the Eastman School of Music and a Masters of Music in Voice & Opera Performance from the University of Southern California. She is Professor Emeritus of San Antonio College, where she taught voice, music theory and choir ensembles.

The concerts are scheduled for Saturday, May 16 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 17 at 2 p.m. and will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 386 N. Fir Street in Sisters. Admission is free.
