Lacrosse suffers losses in close games

The boy's lacrosse team wrapped up league play with a 5-4 loss at home to Bend on Tuesday, May 19. Four days earlier the Outlaws lost 11-7 at Summit.

Sisters played a fine game against Bend in their final game of the season. The Outlaws only lost the contest by one goal - a big improvement compared to their first match-up of the season when the Outlaws lost 11-4.

Sisters had the opportunity to send the game into overtime and peppered the goalie with shots, but unfortunately, time ran out on the clock before the Outlaws could knock in a goal.

Coach Bill Rexford told The Nugget that his team's effort was tremendous and ended their season on a high note.

"The boys gave every last ounce of energy that they had," said Rexford.

The previous week, the Outlaws played their best lacrosse of the year and were able to jump out and take an early lead against Summit, who is undefeated in league this year.

"It's no wonder they are undefeated," said Rexford. "They are highly skilled and do a great job scoring in transition or in unsettled situations. We held them to just two goals in six verses six situations. This bodes well for the future, as we outshot our opponent, out-groundballed them, and I thought outhustled them. Their skills were too much to overcome and they pulled away from us for the win."

Rexford told The Nugget he's sad for the season to end and said he finds himself looking for excuses to gather the boys together.

"I so enjoyed the chemistry and attitude of these young men," said Rexford. "One of our pillars is 'sudden change' and to learn how to accept the situation and just deal with it and not dwell on past mistakes or things we cannot change. I believe these boys practicing allowed us to turn into a competitive team. The season started with everyone beating us easily, and it ended with us standing toe to toe with very good teams. We lost tough games to Summit and Bend to end the year and I could not have been prouder of the effort the boys displayed on the field."
