News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The boys JV lacrosse team wrapped up a successful season with eight wins and one loss in league and finished 11-4-1 overall.
Coach Cailen McNair stated that the Outlaws game against Churchill, on April 7, was one of the biggest highlights of the year.
Churchill is a very talented team and one the Outlaws could have easily been intimidated by early in the season.
Sisters scored six goals in the third quarter of their match up with Churchill and exuded the confidence of a veteran team. Churchill went up by one in the fourth quarter and McNair said he began to question if the Outlaws could finish.
"That was the last time I doubted this team," said McNair. "They scored in the final minutes and held on for a 9-9 tie that felt every bit as good as a win. You can be up and you can be down, but it's how you finish that's important."
The Outlaws' biggest win of the season was their 14-0 victory at home against Thurston on May 5.
Sisters finished with a win over both Summit and Bend in their last two games of the season, which, according to McNair, will set a precedent for next year.
McNair stated he could not express how proud he was of his players and how much they exemplify what the Lacrosse program is all about.
"These guys played with heart every single game, and whether it was against Hermiston or West Linn, the Outlaws played with the intent of winning from the first face-off until the final horn. They scrapped for ground balls and shot with intensity, but most importantly walked off the field knowing the game is bigger than themselves."
The Outlaws scored a total of 108 goals for the season. Marteen Jiminez led Sisters with 36 goals. Stephen Connolly led the team in assists and Josh Brady and Ryan Long recorded the most ground balls.
McNair plans to teach in Moscow, Russia, next year so will not be back as the team's JV coach.
"I will miss these young men, as they have taught me more in the last three years than I have taught them."
