Sisters businesses aid homeless veterans

More that half a million veterans experience homelessness. One out of every three homeless males served in the armed forces. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs reaches only 20 percent of those in need, leaving 400,000 veterans without supportive services.

In 2002, AtHome America and the HelpAmerica Foundation launched its "Thanks a Million!" campaign. They raised $10,000 in the first year, growing to millions of dollars to date to aid homeless veterans and others in need.

Currently two businesses in Sisters, Heritage USA and Miss Sew it All, (owned by Marsha Marr, the mother of Sisters Marine and 2008 Sisters High School graduate, Joshua Marr) are selling USA Words of Truth, Pride and Patriotism. These USA wooden letters are available for a donation of $5 and will be available for a limited time.

All proceeds will be put toward helping military veterans and families.

The HelpAmerica Foundation provides volunteer and financial aid to organizations which support poor, underprivileged, needy and/or homeless Americans, including men, women, children and veterans of war. They are currently also supporting families of active military personnel called to duty.
